It's much better if you actually know the person giving advice. And, talking about this, did anybody notice that companies actually pay previous patients for referrals? (about a3100-a3200 per patient referred, as far as I have been told). So, don't just assume that because you are talking to a real person there is no interest behind the advice you are getting.Snake |

Also, would you spend public money to teach coimetsc surgery, that is not offered by public hospitals? If it is recognised as a speciality by the Royal College of Surgeons in the UK then yes I would be happy for my tax money to go into this area. Some people need coimetsc surgery because of birth defects and theres is of reconstructive surgery that all (in my opinion) falls under coimetsc surgery because these people want to look normal' so if we are recognising this area then we should teach it properly. In the UK coimetsc surgery is available on the NHS in some areas and surgeons do often work in the nhs as well as eventually set up a private practice-some still do both. I don't see how they can train properly or be regulated well if we do not put public money into training. I truly believe that the NHS need these skills also. It would depend on the conmapy. Lots of places allow for a grace period (usually around 10 days), however, my insurance conmapy does not because of their really low rates. The only way to know for sure would be to check with that conmapy. |

Dear Dr SnakeMy case will not end up in the civil court, and nor will 99.9% of clinical neilngegce claims involving the private work of surgeons and the clinics, as they are invariably settled (some with gagging clauses). Whilst emotionally-charged posts can be easily discounted and discredited, the ones that do the most damage and make uncomfortable reading for the surgeons, involve repeat failures on multiple patients, especially if theycome accompanied by photographic evidence (which clearly has not been posted by an individual that was not psychologically equipped' to handle surgery in the 1st place etc). These are the ones that everyone clambers to remove. My post was deliberately worded to include snippets of my postconsultation letters and was anything but emotional, but it caused distress'. What we need, on the web (and it will break through sooner or later like a tsunami) is a Robert Peston type to shake up the industry as a whole, to make it understand that it is ACCOUNTABLE.We can start with small steps: e.g. I am sure you are aware that any surgeon acting in a private capacity in the UK and in control of handling personal data and privy to confidential information must legally register (and this is annually) with the Information Commissioner's Office as a Data Controller. Yet over 75% of surgeons don't bother.It doesn't seem to concern them that being found in breach of these regulations carries a fine of a35k + costs in the Magistrates' Court and automatic notification to the GMC. So, if surgeons do not feel the urge to get the small things right, how do we start the process of standardising preop preparation, insuring that we operate within a framework where proper consent is sought, and the crunch question of personal integrity, where the ego is put to one side and there is some sort of acceptance that maybe, just maybe, some surgical procedures are beyond the scope of a individual's abilities. -Dear Dalek,I do respect your opinion, but I don't see how registering as a Data Controller or not may change my skills in the operating theatre.You do not have to settle a case, if you are not happy with the settlement. The fact that the majority of cases is settled before reaching a court is a sign, to me, that surgeons are mostly willing to accept their responsibilities without discussion.I agree that not all surgeons are perfect and there are bad apples around, but I am not sure they are as difficult to spot as you are saying. We could add stricter rules and change the regulations, but nothing will ever work better than talking to different surgeons, investing time and, I am afraid, money, before deciding to go ahead with one doctor.Snake |

This is super cute, but I have to admit, when I saw a whole magazine actirle decorating exclusively with stuff made from paint chips, it gave me a funny feeling. Especially in a magazine. Sure, they're free, but .? Yeah, I'd feel funny about it.But I wish I had seen this when I had about 45 different paint chips in various green and yellow shades when we were painting a couple rooms in our house!! They just got tossed in the garbage. Soooo maybe you can target it towards those people who want to repurpose the chips they don't need. OR .ask the store if they have old ones that they no longer want displayed? |

HelloAs with everything in life if you can be truetsd with small things, you can be entruetsd with the bigger things,and of course there's best practice'. And at least if a doctor is a bone fide Data Contoller I won't feel disgruntled about being fleeced' when asked to hand over a350 for a mixed bundle of notes, by someone who cannot legitimately charge and the doctor won't be breaking the law. Re. settlements: invariably either Publicly funded (means-tested and need to measure up to a costs:benefit ratio determined by the potential for success), or on a Conditional Fee Agreement and requiring insurance. Both need a contingency of a375-100k to take a case to court! Neither side can sustain the astronomical court costs, so cases are settled. The claimant never recovers the exent of his/her true losses it's the way the system is designed to discourage litigants. Surgeons DO NOT take responsibility for the headache of a tortious claim, that's what they pay their insurers at the GMC for. the insurers handle the claim and field it out to the lawyers at the endstage. The only responsibility the surgeon will have, as a result, is paying a higher premium, I'm afraid.As for surgeons taking responsibility: it is easier to be struck off/restricted for financial irregularities or self-prescribing by the Fitness to Practise unit at the GMC than it is for killing or maiming a patient. [The constraints of this site do not permit me to give names, but to illustrate this happened to a BAAPS specialist within the last 24 months; he did however have a reputation for not being such a hot surgeon - so maybe it's the GMC's way for administering Al Capone-type justice without undermining the credibility with the public: Al Capone if you recall, went down for tax evasion as no one could pin him down for for racketeering]. Agree v much about the investing time to research properly. Also would add look at the stats: good names will appear over-and-over, not in a one-post-wonder where the missus has been asked to do her bit for the family business :] -Dear Dalek,completely agree with you about the GMC being very strict on some, not necessarily minor but more frequent irregularities, and somehow disoriented when something major and/or unusual occurs. Our internet radio station is a community station; which means its primary purpose is to promote the community as a whole and to each other.We work with non-profits in the community to promote their programs at no cost to them. How we do this is playing their spot on the station when we do have a paying client in the spot. Currently we have a daily inventory of 360 spots and since we are new to the area that means alot of spots are avialable to our commuinity's non-profits. On our website we also rotate information on our non-profits as well as provide a lisiting for them in our Community Calendar.We are currently playing advertisements for Tri-County Services, Conroe Art League, Crighton Players and other non-profits.Please pass this email on to the person who would be responsible and ask them to email me back so that we could visit further on how WayMoreFM.com could benefit local 4-H clubs. |
